A hair tattoo, also known as scalp micro-pigmentation, is a medical, non-surgical cosmetic tattoo that simulates a close buzz cut hairstyle on a bald head or adds density to a thinning hairline. The procedure can also be used to hide the visual impact of burns or scars on the head, as well as to conceal scars from hair transplantation. Scalp micro pigmentation is safe for all skin types and colours.
To avoid pain during the procedure, local anaesthesia is used. Unlike other tattoos, the process penetrates the epidermal level of the skin and deposits pigment in the upper dermal level, and the inks (or pigments) used are less prone to colour change over time. The benefits of this procedure include the ability to easily adjust and refresh the hairline.
The cost of scalp micro pigmentation is determined by several factors, including where you live, the type of clinic you choose, the treatment area required and the number of treatments required.
The procedure is completed in two or three sessions, each lasting about three hours. Clients can select from hundreds of ink colours to match their natural hair colour and skin tone
Although scalp micropigmentation is a permanent treatment, it can be removed through a corrective procedure or laser treatment. Because the procedure is still relatively new, there is little, if any, scientific data on whether people have experienced side effects.
Because two main health issues with hair tattoos are the cleanliness of the needles and the possibility of an allergic reaction to the ink used, many practitioners conduct a small patch test on an inconspicuous part of your scalp before undertaking the full treatment. The most important aspect of scalp micropigmentation is achieving a natural-looking hairline. If this procedure is not performed correctly, it can completely prevent the illusion of hair and end up leaving the client with an unnatural finish.
